MATCH REPORT – PNA 16’s Division 1 vs Success Netball Association

To set the scene, it was a warm and humid night down at the courts. Talking to the girls briefly before the game they were excited and nervous. I have to say they looked great in their new uniforms. The coaches were also excited to get their season started.

PNA started nervously with Success scoring the 1st 3 goals of the game. Perth gained many turnovers but wasted a few of these so hence a close 1st quarter.

In the 1st quarter the highlights included the defensive line of Eliana Hullett and Lauren Vladich who had some great defence over the shot and beautiful circle movement by Alyssa Wheeler, who was also provided some brilliant feeding by Sienna McDonald. There was also some great shooter to shooter work between Sarena Kriletich and Alyssa Wheeler and they appeared to read well off one another. The centre – court of Sally King, Sienna McDonald and Lily Hardy worked tirelessly through the middle and started to show some great linking with both ends of the court.

At the end of the 1st quarter PNA 16 – Success 11

There were no changes for the start of the 2nd quarter, we started with tighter defence and they were rewarded with many intercepts and turnovers. Even the shooters were on fire defensively transitioning quickly into defence to win their own ball back. The vision from the team began to open up this quarter and there was a fantastic pass into the shooting circle from Lily Hardy at WD on the transverse line for PNA to score. Once again Sally King and Sienna McDonald continued to deliver quality ball into their shooters.

Half-time score PNA 34 – Success 16

At half-time there were changes made to the side bringing on Ava Drage into C and Sienna McDonald moving to WA, Amber Passera onto GA and Charley Baxter onto GK. It seemed to be seamless in their changes and they didn’t miss a beat.
The team appeared to put their foot down and Amber Passera’s movement in the circle appeared effortless and combining with Alyssa Wheeler was awesome to watch. The combination of Ava Drage and Sienna McDonald of hitting the circle edge hard and their ball speed down court was fantastic. Charley Baxter and Lauren Vladich offered lots of height down the back and stifled Success’s attack line.

3rd quarter score PNA 49 – Success 23

No changes to the last quarter was just sublime and PNA were reaping all the rewards of their hard work in the first 3 quarters. There were some slick passages of play with their ball work and their general movement down court. It was enjoyable to watch.
It was a complete team performance with everybody playing their role but a special mention must go to Sienna McDonald who led from the front and had a very consistent 4 quarters.

Full Time – PNA 68, Success 33

Great start – Keep it up
