PNA provides many opportunities for individuals wishing to further their umpiring knowledge and development or to gain practical experience.

 

These include;

 

  1. Netball Rules Workshops
    During the April, July and October school holidays, PNA runs Netball Rules Workshops for new  umpires. The Workshops involve technical and practical applications of umpiring, rules discussion and on court umpiring. All participants are required to sit the online Rules of Netball Theory Exam prior to the Workshops – please be aware that the cost of the Rules of Netball Theory Exam is not included in the Umpire Workshops.     Basic instructions: log into your Netball Learning account > Find Learning > search ‘Rules of Netball Exam’  > Add to Shopping Cart> Go To Shopping Cart > process payment > launch > complete exam)

    July 2022 Workshop Dates:

    Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th July

    9:30 am – 1:15 pm

    Venue: Matthews Netball Centre Hall

    Cost – $127.54 (includes rule book, PNA Grip Whistle and 2.03% transaction fee)

    2 mornings of technical and practical applications of umpiring, rules discussion and on court umpiring.

    All participants are required to sit the online Rules of Netball Theory Exam prior to the Workshops – please be aware that the cost of the Rules of Netball Theory Exam is not included in the Umpire Workshops.

    NOTE: All participants must be 12 years old by 30th June 2022 to participate

    Registrations close 9:00 am Wednesday 6th July, unless capacity is reached prior.

  2.  Club Umpire Workshops 
    A technical and on court workshop designed for adult (18+) umpires who are looking at getting into umpire and existing umpires who are wanting to upskill for the upcoming season. This workshop will cover technical and practical applications of umpiring, rules discussion and on court umpiring of athletes on the PNA Development pathway. All participants are required to sit the online Rules of Netball Theory Exam prior to the Workshops – please be aware that the cost of the Rules of Netball Theory Exam is not included in the Umpire Workshops. The cost of the workshop includes a rule book.

    Workshop Details:

    Sunday 22nd May

    Time: 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm
    Venue: Matthews Netball Centre (199 Salvado Road, Jolimont)

    Cost – $51.02 (includes a Rule Book and 2.03% transaction fee)

    Registrations close 9:00 am Monday 16th May, unless capacity is reached prior.

    Whistle: All participants must bring a whistle to the workshop for the practical on court umpiring section of this workshop. Whistles will be available for purchase through the registration form – these will be available for collection at the workshop. 

    1 afternoon technical and practical applications of umpiring, rules discussion and on court umpiring. 

    All participants are required to sit the online Rules of Netball Theory Exam prior to the Workshops – please be aware that the cost of the Rules of Netball Theory Exam is not included in the Umpire Workshops.

    NOTE: All participants must be at least 18 years old by 30th June 2022 to participate

  3. Junior and Open Squad Training 
    The start of the national badging pathway. After being talent identified, umpires in these groups are allocated onto suitable weekly matches to be coached while they umpire. When umpires reach the appropriate skill level badging is organised via the relevant Umpire Development Officer.
  4. Rules Discussion
    PNA are running two umpire information sessions focussing on the Primary competition rules (including NetSetGO the PNA Way) and the Secondary & Open Compeititon rules.

    Wednesday 27th April

    Time: 6:30 pm
    Venue: Matthews Netball Centre Hall

    Please note that due to venue capacity requirements places will be limited. Please register your attendance to avoid missing out.

  5. Clubs Rules Discussion 
    PNA can arrange for a senior umpire to attend a Club meeting with players to go through the rule book with and how it applies on court.
  6. Umpiring Technical Skills 
    PNA are running an umpiring technical skills workshop. This workshop is designed to:

    – Improve current understanding and knowledge of the rules of the game
    – Improve umpiring skills by identifying and penalising infringements of the rules
    – Be able to demonstrate how positioning, movement and vision impacts on an umpires performance
    – Develop an awareness of when it is appropriate to playing advantage
    – Have an awareness of Contact v Contest

    Workshop Details
    There are no Umpiring Technical Skills Workshops currently scheduled.  

  7. Game Management Workshop
    This workshop will cover:

    – Pre-game checks and protocols
    – Responsibilities of players, coaches and umpires
    – Control Strategies (change in delivery, informal advice)
    – Expected application informal and formal (rule, type of foul play, sanction, type of game management)

    Time: 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
    Venue: Matthews Netball Centre Hall

    Registrations are essentials. 

  8. Club Umpire training
    PNA can arrange for a Senior umpire to attend a Club training night and upskill your club umpires.   

  9. Club Umpire support – first time or developing umpires can request an umpiring coach to attend their match to provide support as they learn and gain confidence.

Umpire Information:

To umpire at Perth Netball Association. Umpires must be affiliated with Netball WA and PNA as an umpire. To affiliate to PNA and Netball WA as an umpire please contact your club for their registration links. There is no fee associated with this affiliation.

  • Match Day Office official rule books and whistles are sold each match day from the PNA office at Matthews Netball Centre.
  • All umpires are required to wear appropriate sportswear for the duration of the match.
